I am not clear what you are trying to achieve. Please clarify a little. I use a VPN client on my PC & iPhone that I use to connect to the VPN server on my router. I then use either Squeezeplay (PC) or iPeng player (iPhone) to stream my music. This works fine. If however I attempted a Remote Desktop connection to a PC on my network I won't get sound or video via the RDP session. I can't remember off hand why this is but I think it is to do with default firewall rules on the router and netbios blocking. If however I had Kodi on my laptop connected via the aforesaid VPN client then I would expect to be able to stream video on the laptop. The laptops default gateway may need to be via the VPN. Where does the VPN service come into your equation? It should all be your own.
