Derek could tell that Julia was under a strain and close to her boiling
point. He laid a hand on her shoulder squeezing it reassuringly. He looked
distracted at the other policeman. "Yes, she had my authorization to pick
her up. I haven't had an opportunity to contact the school yet," he added.
"Katherine's mother is quite ill and I'm afraid we have been a bit
preoccupied with that." Then another thought occurred to him. "Alexandra
Maoreaux was with her," he gestured at the other young woman irritation
beginning to fill him. "Why does that matter right now? She's not the one
who took Kat and that is quite obvious."
Julia had started to relax at Derek's touch, only to stiffen when the
officer had asked what he had. She was about to say something when a whole
other problem sprang up.
In the form of James Ellison and his friend, both having been on their way
to Julia Walker's residence to question her about Claire's whereabouts, only
to hear a report over their police scanner involving her name.
Jim was as close to frantic as he liked to be so didn't think twice as he
reached out and caught her by the hand "Julia Walker?"
She flinched in reaction and tugged her arm away, not knowing who the
nutcase was but in no mood to take any kind of manhandling "Get off me!"
"Where's my neice?" he asked, voice carrying over the cop's that was trying
to get her and then his attention.
Julia bumped into Derek by accident but was reaching for the man's hand to
twist his hand into letting her go, a technique that, no matter a person's
size or weight, would immobilize them and make them fall to their knees,
unable to do anything else.
"I don't know who you are or what the hell you're talking about." she
snapped, blue eyes flashing as she got a firm hold on his hand and started
to apply the hold, Jim Ellison yelping as he started to fall and Blaire
Sandburg just making it to where they were standing and trying to stop
Julia.
"Whoa whoa.. he's upset, let go! He's just looking for his neice that came
up missing. Claire Ellison. You know her right?" Sandburg asked, his
words coming out in a rush.
Julia let go of Ellison's hand and stepped back in aggitation "I don't have
time for this!"
Ellison looked up and then stood, his own gaze angry "You better make time."
