"So do I," Derek replied softly returning her hug. "And Julia, it's not
that I don't feel for Amber...what happened to her is horrible and should
never have happened. But if none of the other adults there was able to
help....I just can't send more people in unprepared for what they will be
dealing with." He smiled slightly and shrugged, "Alex will always be Alex,
I would never expect less of her."
"I know, honestly I do." Julia closed her eyes before mustering something of
a smile "But I went and pulled on you what I saw the problem to be. Pretty
much dismissing your experience because... well because I can't stand the
thought of a child being hurt. I don't think Jane, no her own, would ever
be able to hurt someone like that and..."
She sighed and tilted her head to look up at him "I know you'll do
everything you can to take care of whatever is happening. Just... try to
include the others without calling them reckless?"
