Thanks. I copied the above in a Note and double-clicked it, I got an
error msg (see below), but the shadows are all gone now. I haven't
been able to recreate the shadows for now. The error msg I got was: 

"Cannot find window to change or to send keys to c=sysshadow"

Will report back if I can recreate this behaviour, and especially if
the above keeps on resolving this problem for me.
