While we're sharing 'cancelled order' stories...
A few years ago ('96) I was bidding on a Performa 6320 from Onsale.com
which was mainly an outlet for refurbished stuff. (this was just before
eBay got big) I won the auction with a bid of $1000. The next day I
got an email saying that there was a problem with the auction and they
didn't actually have the 6320. They then sent me a check for $200 (and
a mouse pad) for my trouble. The next week the same 6320 came up for
auction and I bid on it again and won. The exact same thing happened
and they sent me another check for $200. I could have 'suffered' this
kind of customer support forever, but I was moving out of the country
and needed a new Mac, so I went to the local Circuit City and bought
a 6400.
Ok, this doesn't ease the pains of the guy who got screwed, but I just
love telling that story.
PS. For old times sake I just tried going to Onsale.com and got re-directed
to Egghead. Maybe they're going to ask for their $400 back...
