Works fine for me on the few business trips I take.

Mine is a 540c, upgraded to a 167 MHz NewerTech and 32 MB, with the "latest 
and greatest" GV 2.5.5 firmware (which will often connect at 19.2).

Works fine at home over my DSL connection (A-AUI Ethernet connector) or away 
from home over a hotel's dial like (modem connector).
