Andrew,

Just out of curiosity, how often, in the two years
that you've owned your Powerbook, do you use your
battery? I don't want to get into the discussion you
and David are having, I'm just curious ;-) If there
is or isn't a problem with the Wallstreet's charging
ability, fine.

One thing you need to consider about laptop batteries
in general is how often they are used. I've said this
a few times before, and I'll say it again; ideally,
you want to fully discharge and fully charge your
battery at least once every two weeks. I've seen so
many people buy a laptop, always keep it plugged in
and running on AC Power, then a year after they get
it, they try to run from battery and find they can
only get a half hour of life off of it. (I'm not
saying thats you, just giving an example ;-) ) That
type of behavior is not uncommon if you don't use the
battery.

David made the comment that you should expect to
replace your battery every few years... Maybe... It
sounds logical... However, I have 5 laptops at home...
All except one will hold a consistent 2 hour charge
and they are all at least 5-6 years old. They all
have their original batteries... I think proper
maintenance is the key. The one that doesn't hold a
charge is actually about 10 years old and it held a
charge (on it's original battery) just fine until I
let a friend borrow it about a year and a hlaf ago for
some minor word processing stuff. He always kept it
plugged in, never ran it from battery, and, now that I
have it back, the battery is officially dead. I'm not
going to bother buying a new battery for a laptop that
is 10 years old... but I hardly ever use it anyway ;-)

Cheers,
Sionnach
