It can be reinfoced and glued with epoxy quite satisfactorily if you are handy with that kind of thing.
To get the trackpad off, remove the keyboard (3 torx t-8 screws). Next remove the single screw that secures the speaker grill, and flip it up out of the way. Now open the screen wide open and remove the left and right clutch covers (hinge covers). Now you can lift the trackpad. If done correctly and carefully you will not break any plastic tabs. The trackpad is slightly wedged in place (don't know any better way of describing it) near where the right end of the space bar would be. A bit of upward prying will free it.
