That's sort of an over-simplification, isn't it?  About all they have 
in common is a similar industrial design.

Though you might be right about the button, that (and certain 
batteries and expansion bay modules - made possible because the 
industrial design dictated the shape of the removable modules) is the 
only interchangeable part that I'm aware of.  Still, the 190 and 3400 
use the same trackpad mechanism, which you _can_ use in a 5300, but 
unless you have a 190 to gut for it's data cable, the trackpad from 
any other machine is useless in a 5300...

I still think the easiest fix would be to swap complete palm rests 
with a 5300 or 190.  $15 should be a reasonable price.
