If  it's not repairable then you may need to get a replacement palm 
rest.  I don't recall seeing any place listing track pad switches 
only (but then I haven't really looked THAT much).

I was just inside both a G3 (more or less the same as a 3400) and a 
5300.  The part LOOKED the same but I wasn't really comparing them. 
The G3 had a broken plastic tab that the microswitch pressed against 
when operated.  The switch is mounted to the button pad and this 
plastic tab is stationary, odd.  I glued the tab back and after a 
couple of days it is still okay.  I may have gotten lucky here.

As someone mentioned there is a piece of software that makes a 5300s 
trackpad operate like the latter models where you can click, click 
and drag and so on with just the trackpad.  I tried it on a 5300 and 
wasn't satisfied with it but it does work.  The operation of the G3 
software is nicer.
