Well it looks like I solved most of my problem, so I will pass on the caveat, so you don't do what I did. On my 3400, the original hard disk crashed, so I popped in another one and loaded it with an 8.5 OS disk that came with my beige G3. Long story short it didn't have the extensions needed for a 3400 ethernet (of IRda) for that matter. So.... I reinstalled from an 8.1 Full Install bootable CD and all the needed files were on it! Now ethernet shows up where it is supposed to (Appletalk, TCP/IP), and the lights on my hub light up.
However, it still doesn't seem to fully recognize the set up. Under TCP/IP info I don't get an Address for "This Macintosh". -Phil- -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
