I have found that alcohol cleans but not enough. Ammonia on the other hand cleans very efficiently. I started with alcohol with my painting hacks and have gotten many fisheyes in the paint (dirt or oil still on the plastic). Once I switched to the Ammonia I haven't had any problems with fisheyes, adherence or chip resistance.
A little off topic, but it reminds me of a home made eyeglass cleaning solution the local paper had at one time.
4-parts alcohol to 1-part ammonia in a spray bottle.
I have used this solution to clean windows, ( I wish it worked on PC windows - lol ) and it leaves the glass so clean, it is hard to tell there is any glass there at all.
Friends have bumped their heads when going to look out my windows because they thought they were open.
