What is the max I can get with video on a 540c, and what hardware is needed? And how much would it cost generally? I only get 256 colors on the screen right now.
As it says on lowendmac.com:
display: 9.5" 8-bit 640x480 color active matrix
The 540c can do thousands of colors (16-bit) in 640x400 mode. You can get to that in the Monitors control panel or on the control strip. It puts about a half-inch band at the top and bottom of the screen. Looks good on mine.
