I think we just don't have enough options here.
I'm going to suggest that you pick up another scsi device to work with here.
either another cd (one that works) or maybe a syquest drive.
This will take at least a few days to round up on ebay or some such,
maybe you're lucky and have a local source for old hardware.
One of the larger syquest drives would be a nice way to go. Bootable,
large enough capacity to hold a system and the 8.6 installer, nice versatile
device to have around and cheap.

I just can't get the CD Drive to be recognized by the computer. I'd be happy
to use it to do the update as I think it would be far easier. I have nothing
else to hook the CD too in order to verify it's fully functional so I'm
stuck at this point
