FYI, Macs don't have BIOS. Boot order (defined in ROM) goes like this:

1) Floppy
2) Anything else
(If you have SCSI devices, it checks them next, one at a time, starting with the lowest ID and working up. IDE devices come last, IIRC.)

You can change the boot order by changing some NVRAM variables. You do that by using the Startup Disk control panel.

As far as I know, there are NO bootable LINUX floppies for Mac. The only Mac bootable floppies contain Mac OS.

Booting Linux off a CD-ROM (external SCSI version in this case since there are no CD-ROMs for the 5300) may be techincally possible on and older Mac, but it's unlikely to be found on a downloadable Linux ISO since it would also have to include a copy (however stripped down) of Mac OS.

Installing Linux on a 5300 will require something like this:
- Parition the hard drive with one (small - ~100 MB) partition for Mac OS (go with OS 8 for a good mix of features versus size) and the BootX extension & control panel. Leave the rest for Linux (depending on your distribution, it will either require you to partition this space before installing or if the rest of the space is left unallocated, it will partition it during install).
- Hook up a SCSI CD-ROM drive. Make sure you get termination working right.
- Install the ram disk image & kernel from your distro on the Mac parition according to the installation instructions.
- Launch BootX and begin booting from the disk image.
- Direct the Linux installer to read from the CD-ROM drive.

Good luck! The last time I ran Linux on my 5300, it was MkLinux, and most of the PowerBook's features were unsupported. I heard that's been more-or-less fixed now...
