Thanks for all the defrag responses! I had used Norton Utilities in OS 9 but decided not to pay their crazy version upgrade scheme for what truly were point releases (what was it?... the first OS X compatible version didn't even _have_ all the features of the older version). DiskWarrior gets good reviews for repair and that's probably my next direction for disk maintenance.
