That was a response to "Is new SPARQL syntax really required for this? IMO that is a major drawback. Couldn't extension functions suffice?". Property functions aren't very intuitive as the arguments become more complex (c.f. the alternative of use of SERVICE) I would suggest that a proposal be developed - which can be a Jena change if having a concrete implementation that community can engage with.
