Alan, you will also be liable for UK tax. To get the commodity code ring 01702 366 077. Then ring the Customs and VAT enquiies on 0845 010 9000. It may seem a bit of a hastle but worth it to get maximum liability!
A cautionary note: I ordered a 14mm lens from B+H in NY. (Had ordered a second hand one in UK but the courier lost it and a new one in US is cheaper overall). Nothing turned up for a week; just kept getting a tracking message 'not sent'. Eventually followed by a message from the verification dept 'goods held'. (By which time the money had been taken from our a/c for a week) The store refused to send out the goods without verification from our bank the the account was ours and that they wouldn't have to return the money if i had stolen the card. Impossible from the UK with the Data Protection Act. One rude and unhelpful man got me to cancell the order. Not to be beaten I had another try and got a very helpful man who evenually patched me thro to our bank and everything was verified over the phone. Lens which is great arrived less that 48 hrs later (6.7% duty). IDS is also wonderful but I wish Jim and I had a bit more techknowledgy under our belts! Re storage from micros www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories for the Delkin eFilm PicturePad looks like it could be the answer but I'd love to hear from anyone with experience! diana QA Photos Tel: +44 (0) 1303 894141 Fax: +44 (0) 1303 894144 www.qaphotos.com www.terlinghammanor.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "alan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "prodig" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, January 16, 2003 8:40 PM Subject: [PRODIG] canon eos1ds in nyc > > After viewing the shots from the 1ds particularly those on dpreview.com I > was bowled over - it really looked like that End Of Film moment to me! > > I am off to NYC next week and thought I might buy a 1ds while I am out there > - the price seems to be about 6700 here and about $7700 or some 4900, plus > duty at 5%(?) of 250 still leaves me with a 25% discount. > > This seems such a saving that buying it when I am in NYC anyway seems very > logical given such a saving. > > I think warranties are international so that covers the biggest worry(?) > > So...can anyone tell me if I am missing anything out? > > Also any suggestions about the best places in NYC to buy a 1ds would be very > helpfull > > > many thanks > > > Alan Mahon > > > =============================================================== > GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE > > =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
