Hi list

I was thinking of buying a D1s from the US or Hong Kong, but when I added on
the shipping charges, UK import duty and possible local taxes I found that
the price was very little different to the BEST price I could get here in
London.

So I bought it here in London (mainly because I was impatient to get my
hands on it)

Then a week later the camera WENT WRONG in spades! The Canon Professional
Service bureau in Elstree told me that it had developed 4 different faults
in its systems!

Well they responded excellently and 24 hours later I had a brand new
replacement camera, so I had no complaints.

But I asked the service manager what he would have done if the camera had
been purchased outside Europe, and he said that Canon are not technically
obliged to honour non-European warranties. He said that they are reviewing
their policy on this matter but he gave me the clear impression that while
they would be sympathetic, they would not necessarily be able to offer the
kind of service that I received.

Worth considering while you count your savings on the purchase price...

By the way I'll add my voice to the chorus....FANTASTIC CAMERA...throw away
that film NOW.

Regards,
Colin Thomas
