I think its safe to use Nortons as a beer mat as long as its not too close
to the computer. From my understanding, most disk directory repair utilities
like Nortons try to find a problem and patch it, but if they make a mistake,
they can do more harm than good. DiskWarrior takes the attitude that its
better to change the directory totally so there is no risk of making an
error. Think of it like the difference between repairing a puncture or
simply changing the inner tube.

Most UNIX experts actually advise against using defrag in OS X and as time
goes by I am inclined to agree. Unix seems to find its own favourite place
for files and heavy fragmentation doesn't appear to adversely effect OS X as
it did with OS 9.
