Not dense at all, Mike. I made an enormous assumption that you were making borders in the same way as I do: I select the whole canvas (COMMAND>A) then Edit>Stroke. I usually select a width of 3/4 pixels, an opacity of 75% with a colour of 0,0,0 and make sure that it strokes with the 'Inside' radio button checked. Then I expand the canvas by 5-10 pixels (white) all round to make sure the whole of the border is printed because, as you have found, it is nearly impossible to get this to happen with your method...
