Sorry to be dense Jack, but can you explain what you mean by the inside
setting. I usually increase the canvass size by 1 point to give me my
borders. Have you got a better way I wonder? At the moment because of the
unreliability I use the Border button as mentioned by Ed.

Hi Mike and Jack,
Another suggestion for borders is to use the feature within Canvas Size. Tick the 'Relative' box and apply a border in any measurement style you like, having set the background to the colour you want.
