Hello
We have had problems with exposure and sharpness with our S2 and so our fuji rep had a look and sure enough it seems to be about a stop and a half out.....the sharpness problem we thought could be the lenses.
So we bought a D100 which is much sharper,.....then we got another S2 and back to back, both re set to default settings, the new one was significantly sharper when tested with the same lenses.
I remember a posting about a batch that had a mirror problem and ours was in that batch of serial numbers, but we were told not to return it unless it failed, maybe that mirror problem is the cause of the unsharpness?
So If yours ins in that batch get it tested
Another problem which surfaced, was when using a Prolinca IR trigger, the new S2 'missed' the flash sync, producing a very dark (almost black) image which really threw me, turns out it was the ir flash trigger, with a sync cord it was fine , the original s2 however synched perfectly with both syncs!
cant explain that one.
The new S2 was not only sharper but produced a much cleaner, saturated image.
both S2's were out when used on auto exposure modes in daylight and when compared to a minolta and a nikon F100 meter, the new one being a little nearer to the minolta /nikon meter readings.
The first one is going back!
Serves us right for buying it mail order, I'm sure Leeds or calumet would have sorted it out for us
..then again at the time we couldn't find one anywhere else.
On another matter, talking off line to Janus van Helfteren, he wondered how effective the lens hoods were on 35mm lenses considering youre not using the whole image area i.e. you could mask off more, which would help some flare problems.....good point I thought.
