A bit late coming to this thread as I've been away ... but my external 180GB LaCie HD just crashed a short while ago. It cannot be 'mounted', all I get is asked whether to initialize it or not (and lose all my backed up data). How do I go about recovering the data from it? And can it be used again (and be relied on!) if it's re-initialized? Oh dear ... hope I haven't lost all that's on it. Thanks for any help.
