A bit late coming to this thread as I've been away ... but my external 180GB
LaCie HD just crashed a short while ago. It cannot be 'mounted', all I get
is asked whether to initialize it or not (and lose all my backed up data).

How do I go about recovering the data from it? And can it be used again (and
be relied on!) if it's re-initialized?

Oh dear ... hope I haven't lost all that's on it.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Tariq,

how about posting the drive?

www.peak-uk.com +44 1489 796979 if their tech support doesnt answer you problems ask for Kevin Bordley, he recovered a full 60 gig drive for us last year, it was away for only a few days.

They do have software you can buy to recover yourself.

Mention us to him as I promised to recommend his good service :)
