Simple solution is to remove the drive  and connect it directly to the IDE
cable .
and use the Disc manufacturers bootable floppy ( Downloadable from their
website ) to examine the drive.
There are a number of options open to you if the drive is reported as Ok.One
is to use the same bootable floppy to copy the drive to anther one or to use
a file recovery software from someone like
www.LC-Tech.com .
If your drive is working ok you should be able to recover everything.
