Virgin Atlantic point out that US customs will normally agree to a hand search but warn about such behaviour in other (unspecified) countries. I imagine most of us at some time have had a run in with unhelpful baggage handlers somewhere in the world.


What concerned me enough to send the original post was that for the past ten years or so the claim has been that X ray machines will not affect conventional film under 400 asa on one pass. The new machines (only in the US) come with the (Virgin Atlantic) warning that they <will> damage your film as they are using a different technology.
