it would do my karma some good if others were spared that experience.

Do you know how this technology differs? I thought that X-ray machines
were standardised - just wondering if its going to be something will be
rolled out everywhere or if its just a US thing.

Don't know if you saw BJP (25.06) p.9 there is a note on X-Ray
inspections 
being replaced by more effective scanning which measures the density of
objects using muons (sub atomic particles) at some point
