I note that you didn't post the link from the response you had on the other list, a link to a response from Apple vice-president of hardware responding to the test's critics on slashdot:

Dear Paul

Sorry to be slow in responding, simply not enough time to catch up with lists so I did not see this when I posted here yesterday morning. Yes I agree that anyone interested in following the links I posted should look at this one too.

Yes had a very quick look at it late last night. At the end of the day, we will see if the reality matches the promises, and that goes for apples or pears. Its as well to be cautious not to attach too much importance to these 'happenings' , well that's my feeling for what its worth.

I'm sure at the end of the day, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. However, I think the speed issue is largely irrelevant for any of us with relatively new hardware, whatever platform when working with stills. I am very happy with the speed of my dual 1ghz G4 and won't be dashing out to buy a G5, even though now it makes the G4 look positively decrepit!

I quite agree unless you are dealing with very large files, here they seem to get ever bigger so this is of some interest, however the amount of addressable ram is just as key I think. That all changes with 64bit.

Cheers

Richard

PS
Thank you to every one who has emailed me with support for Alyson. She may have been a little unworldly wise in signing a contract that could be interpreted in many ways, but that is understandable. She obviously wanted to get a job in photography, but its sad that there are employers who feel able to exploit the employment situation in such an unpleasant way.

Please send me your names if you would like to show support. Alyson is going through hell on this one, so every name is a help in keeping her spirits up, and does say to those who employ some of us that you can only kick us so far. Thankfully I am not operating in that part of the business, just hate to see what is happening to this lass.

PPS Any comments re the above, please send them direct to me, this is not a topic for debate on Prodig!

Cheers

Richard
