The other point about the G5 is this...try running Final Cut Pro on a PC. I had a mail for a PC based film maker mate the other day saying...gotta get a mac gotta get FCP.... This editing software is taking the telly world by storm. FCP 4.0 costs 1k and does all but everything that Avid can do for a fraction of the cost. I cut my last film on FCP on my 500mhz single processor G4 here at home. Real time DV capture and cutting, fine for off-line and it worked really well. Better still, like PS, FCP is dual processor aware and now with the G5 giving you real time visual effects (dissolves etc), captioning, colour correction and bags of other options including seamless integration with Photoshop all in 64-bit, loads of Avid owners (with systems which cost 20/30/40/50k+ in their studios) in the telly biz are going to be poohing their pants.
