Depends if you're talking about USB 1.1 or USB 2. The Dimage 5400 supports USB 2 so is actually 80mb/s faster than on firewire but if used through a 1.1 port, you'd be stuck to USB 1.1 speed. USB 1.1 is 12mbps, USB 2.0 is 480mb/s and Firewire 1.0 is 400mb/s. Firewire 2.0 on the other hand is 800mb/s but is not widely deployed yet and without checking my manual, I'd say the firewire port on the Dimage is firewire 1.0.
