[PRODIG] Minolta elite 5400 and vuescan

I have downloaded vuescan 7.6.62 trial for use with dimage 5400.
any previews I do from negs are coming out pale blue with no image just a
flashing icon and a selection around the frane?
any ideas what Im doing wrong or where to get more info?
