Jorge... allow me to throw in a comment.  This may or may not be useful.  I
use the healing brush constantly... I don't feel I could live without it
now.  When I first tried using it, I made the brush soft-edged like I
normally would with the clone stamp.  I didn't realize that this was a
mistake.  It needs to be hard edged to work right.  I hope that helps.

BTW... I don't have any trouble with the speed of the healing brush... even
in 16 bit in PS-CS.  In 16 bit, it usually works in less than a second.
This is on a 2 year old Pentium 4 1.8GHz machine with 1.5 gig of ram.  Not a
supercomputer by today's standards.
