Hi Jorge, I personally really like the heal and patch tools, I find they work very well - in the right situation, granted. I especially like the new CS feature in the patch tool, that you can see the source area floating over the destination. However, the rant comes in with the incredibly slow operation in 16 bit. Russell Williams has explained to us that the engineers have been unable to 'get the maths right in CS' to make it work as fast as it did in PS7. For me, one of the main reasons that it must work in 16 bit is for the simple fact of spotting an original scan. The first step in our workflow, once the initial checks have been carried out, is to spot a scan. Yes, the heal tool works well in 8bit but imagine doing your spotting at that stage after lots of retouching and colour correction and then your client (or you!) completely changes their mind about how the image should look. You go back to the original 16bit scan and it has to be spotted all over again. It is galling, having got used to the speed of PS7 to see a progress bar with every single heal in 16bit in CS. So, sensibly I think, we spot in PS7 then re-open in CS to avoid resorting to the much less satisfactory clone tool. Spotting with the heal tool is very fast compared to the PS6 pre-heal days and I just think we have really lost out, along with all the other speed issues relating to CS. It feels as if Adobe have brought out a new version to placate the market and to feed the coffers - a new version (with great new features) that simply isn't ready yet as a professional package. For all of you have forgotten, open up PS7 and work in it again for an hour or so - it is *much* faster. I think Adobe may have to consult Edward De Bono for the next version and each copy of PS9 will ship with mirrors to put around our monitors!
