As I explained in an earlier reply, there have been several comments over instability experience by some people, but seriously they are less prevalent than you imagine and are often 'local' - and by that I mean, circumstances that are specific to their set up. I mentioned the permissions issues. I am not exonerating Apple from the responsibility, but as I explained I noted the suggestion that these permissions needed to be correct at installation of either System or Application Software, and immediately after such an operation for some problems to not occur.
Those who have adopted this 'belt and braces' procedure have, like me experience fewer of these hiccoughs and praise Apple for the stability of Panther, and Adobe for Photoshop CS. In regard to the speed issue, Adobe admit to a couple of elements that are slower than Photoshop 7.x, but on the whole, and bearing in mind the extensive 16-bit operations now available throughout Photoshop CS, it is no slower than before. In terms of functionality and workflow it is a really worthwhile advance. If you take advantage of the offer to upgrade to the entire Creative Suite, the value is incredible. Photographers can benefit from the production of PDF slide shows, very nice tailored handouts done in InDesign, can tweak the Web Photo Gallery with GoLive or add some true 3D or envelope distortion in Illustrator and integrate these elements back into Photoshop.
There do appear to problems with allocating Memory Usage, and with the closing of File Browser whilst working with images, but once these are understood, most people do find that the benefits of using Photoshop CS and Panther far outweigh any of the drawbacks.
There will always be some glitches, but do remember when things go right few people make a song and dance, but when they go wrong, the amplifier cannot be turned high enough, the rooftop likewise and the speed of travel of bad news is at least three times faster and more pervasive than good news!
People who have taken note of some of the suggestions I have made, have had stability and speed, seriously...
