Run it when using PS you could check the processor activity, the disk read/write activity, memory use and so long.
It will allow you to understand and check why PS is running slow...
Regarding the file browser; it saturate the processor activity and the write/read disk when creating thumbnails; in my particular case C1 TIFs comes with no thumbnails, so, when I open my process folder in the browser the activity of the computer is saturated by creation of the thumbnails, when I open this same folder on the finder it saturate all as well.
You could see it at the bottom of the browser's window the message "creating thumbnail of blah...blah" is displayed. Sometimes "getting thumbnail blah...blah" occurs, I didn't understand why... PS CS must be in front in order to create the thumbnails, I launch it and take a cup of coffee with a cigar or sometimes a glass of red Burgundy without a cigar, you might prefer a single malt.

Next time I'm on that box I'll give things another spin, making double sure that the file browser is closed.
