I have a similar setup and I often get an 'ink out' red light flashing, either black or colour. I usually find that it fixes it if I hold the paper feed button until the head moves to the left, then remove the piece of sponge that pushes down the cartridge sensor and replace it. When I press paper feed again, the head moves back to the right, and the light goes out.
