Dear Jurgen, if you are going to have oxigen ( unlike the moon) for being
located somewhere on Earth, you may have to consider a gas or fuel
electricity generator, so you can re-load your batteries for powerbook and
peripherals. Count on battery charge during the shootings to copy files to
laptp and /or digital wallets and recharge all batteries after finishing
each day with he generator. An extra tank with fuel/gas may be necesary,
depending on the number of days you will be using the generator.

I have succesfully used ProFoto power packs ( Acute model, 1200 watts power
output) with such (small) gas generators on remote locations
Of course this was to feed 110 volts studio units, (although I know of guys
who have recharged their ProFoto battery operated units with such
system).so you have to test , propably with the addition of a voltage
regulator, if such set up is stable enough to recharge batteries and not
harm neither the batteries nor the charging units. You have to cjeck with
your local harware suppliers to find out what is available.

As a reminder, do not forget that USB 2 gadgets will only work fast if the
receiving laptop also carries USB2 connections, otherwise you will be in
USB1 hell while trying to download data from such units and wasting battery
power like in an endless drain.

I have a SuperDigiBin , which I can strongly reccomend as nice
futuristic-retro-look paper weight in any nice office. It is sooo slow (USB
1) that I have not been patient enough as to build an iView catalog of the
content, and, although the download of CF cards to the DigiBin is
relatively efficient, after running for almost an hour( with AC Power On)
only a few Gb of the 30 Gb it can contain, had been catalogued, and I get
mad and stop the procedure, so battery consumption with such slow units will
destroy your project.
Probably you can set the record straight from the very begginning by
considering Firewire gadgets,or both.

Other than that , I will wait for your conclusions after this trip, since it
is definitely a technological challenge with the available tools.

Best of luck in your project.
