Pete,
Then following on that argument we should all go out and buy f*ck off big
rocket propelled grenade launchers and we'd all be completely safe in our
homes. Dominic is perfectly correct in his statement regarding the absence
of guns being safer.

How the hell can you (your country) hold that very opinion and in the same
breath decry Iran, Koea or any other country for wanting nuclear weapons.
After all they are only doing it to "protect themselves" aren't they?
Exactly your argument QED.

How hipocritical. In other words "it's OK for us to have them....but nobody
else". Utter bullsh*t.

Holding "offensive" arms merely incites other people to be better "tooled
up" as per all the gang warfare in your country as in the UK. I agree with
the sentiment that "guns never kill people...people kill people" but if you
take away the guns then they can't be used.

You can't have it both ways.

Hi Dominic!

Every lawfully owned gun has saved many lives, and will continue to save
more lives, usually by deterrence. Every burglar is a murder waiting to
happen, the sooner each burglar is killed, or scared straight, the better.
It would be nice if the police would kill them at the station house and save
the homeowners the trouble but we can thank the idiot left for that.

There was an estimate printed a while ago in the local dead-tree paper about
how many crimes each criminal commits prior to being returned to prison. I
forget the exact figure but it was staggering. With the drug habits, the
prices of stolen goods and the cost of illegal drugs - the burglar has to
hit many victims each day, each one in peril of his/her life.

If someone is home when the burglar strikes that person is simply another
unexplained dead body in the morgue. Killing burglars is as essential as
killing dangerous wildlife - bears, wolves, snakes in your home - you get
them or they get you, it is just that simple. Yes, the gun saved a life, and
many more lives.

Regards,

Pete
