I've had an ASUS (android) tablet for over a year that I use several
times a day, and I just got a Lenovo tablet with Windows 8 on it and
have spent the last couple of days testing it.
1. VFP (and best of all, MY APP) runs great on Windows 8 on a tablet.
I use quite a few OCX add-ons in my app...all work great.
I use a MySQL (MariaDB) backend with an ODBC connector...works great!
2. Unfortunately, the manufacturers are still trying to find the "sweet"
spot for balancing
battery life, vs weight, vs processing power.
- The Lenovo tablet is slower than the ASUS. Sometimes it gets into
a kind of
slow-motion grind where it is thinking so hard it can't
respond to you,
but when it does, all those taps and swipes and clicks are
played in rapid
succession. Annoying with a capital "groan".
- The Windows 8 experience on a tablet is not as good as an Android
experience.
By that I mean how you "do" things.
- Finding things on Windows 8 (pre 8.1) is a challenge. (And by
challenge I mean
pain in the butt.)
- MSoft did a fairly good job blending a touch experience with a
mouse/pointer/pen
experience, but there are still rough edges.
- If you are comfortable with MSoft Windows 7, Windows 8 on a
desktop or a tablet
won't be a problem for you.
Andriod's biggest problem is making the experience between devices
similar. I have a Motorola Driod X and it is different in several ways
from the ASUS table...both running Andriod, although (obviously)
different flavors.

Are any of the new windows operating systems VFP friendly? If so, which
OS's and which VFP versions? The absences of VFP is a show stopper for me.

They were late to the tablet game - the RT is sort of pointless and the
full Windows 8 tabs that should make a killing in the corporate world
are too expensive.
If M$ had priced them 1/2 of what they are, do you think the end-result
would have been significantly different?
