You know, that's actually a rather strange requirement, if you think about
it.

If you are using any of the common SANS or NAS products to provide file
services over the network, they are running Samba on Linux. You don't
really require the expense, licensing headaches and complexity of a Windows
Server to serve SMB over Ethernet, you just want a compatible, bug-free
implementation.
