Hi Kristyne!

Carpet is actually a reservoir of filth, the pony is in there!

Try to find out how the laminate stands up to water. I got a few samples and 
put them in storage for a couple of years. The under padding (for sound 
control?) came off of them but the laminate itself was ok. Of course, the 
kind I got isn't out any more.

A quick way to do this is get a sample of each one you are considering and 
just soak them all over a weekend in a barrel or tub of water. Be sure to 
mark them with something waterproof.

You might do the whole house in vinyl tile. That stands up to water quite 
well.
