If you want to set up your own calender, and publish it to the Internet 
on your own server, you can take a look at Web Calender:

http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php

It's free and would give you complete control over the calender.  It 
would probably be much faster than calenders provided by Yahoo and 
Google, because the load on your system would not be near a heavy as 
these very heavily used products.  Web Calendar uses a database server, 
including PostgreSQL, which would make it easy to backup and archive 
prior years activities.
