Whil/Ken,

Keeping in mind the adage "you get what you pay for", I don't think your
expectations about support are 'reasonable' given LunarPage's pricing
model: a ton of bandwidth, storage, features and great up-time for
$100/year.

Instead of traditional support, I encourage you to leverage Lunar's
forums (lunarforums.com; open to non-Lunar visitors as well) for your
questions. I've found many answers by searching through the archives and
almost all of my questions have been answered by members of the
community. Highly recommended!

> Fantastico

Avoid this option and install software yourself.

Comment: Fantastico is a 3rd party product that claims to help you
easily install popular open source products. Many other hosting vendors
offer this exact same product as well. The problem with this product is
that is usually several maintenance releases behind the current version
of each product in its database. If you follow the advice on the
LunarForums.com forums, most elect to go a product's home site for the
latest source code and manually install the products they want to use.

My experience exactly. And given Lunar's price vs. feature set, an
incredible value.

I don't think Lunar is doing anything out-of-the-ordinary. Multiple
domains on a single IP is a basic feature of Apache. Lunar's front-end
is CPanel - a commercial product offered by many hosting vendors.

> Their email support is sketchy.

Agree. And a problem with every hosting vendor I've used.

This is why I *AM* such a raving maniac about Fastmail. I host all my
domains' email accounts on Fastmail.fm. Fastmail also offers simple DNS
hosting as well (free as part of their $39/year plan). I use LunarPages
for basic http services (PHP scripts, MySQL, storage), Fastmail for my
email/DNS, and customer selected hosting choices (internal or a 3rd
party service of their choice) for production applications. This gives
me the flexibility of easily changing hosting vendors without disrupting
my mail services or having to migrate my mail archives across hosting
vendors. Its also nice to have a single configuration process for
managing my mail accounts without having to remember hosting vendor
specific nuances.

> I've also found that connections (email and FTP) are troublesome at times.
> Too many folks trying to connect at the same time. A couple of my
domains timeout regularly when trying to grab mail. Well, being used to
my own mail server, I get spoiled.

See my recommendation to host your email with an email specific hosting
vendor.

Keeping in mind that you get what you pay for, this makes sense.
Regardless of who you choose as your hosting vendor, you might also
consider hiring someone familiar with Drupal (or your package of choice)
to do your initial install and configuration.

Personally, I'm skeptical that *any* hosting vendor is going to be able
provide package (and version) specific technical support as part of
their basic hosting fee.
