Hi Pete,

You got it - sort of. My family doctor bills OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance
Plan) for my visit. My brother-in-law, the heart surgeon, bills OHIP through
his professional corporation. When I go for blood work, the clinic bills
OHIP. The government doesn't provide the health services. We go to whatever
doctor we want.

In the case of Ontario, as well as other Canadian provinces, the government
merely collects taxes and health care fees from us and pays doctors and
other health services providers. Depending on income level, each individual
pays up to $900. per year for all health coverage not only in Ontario but
throughout Canada.

So if health care is provided by the private sector, how can it be
"socialized medicine"?

Al
