I had a problem with a client who commenced legal action against me because I WASN'T BEING PAID! (go figure). This went on for months of expensive lawyer-led negotiations until I got fed up and instructed my lawyer to file a counter-suit. I faxed my client at the same time and (no-joke) it took less than a minute for him to back down. I learned that while negotiation is ALWAYS the first port of call, counter-suit has a great deal of persuasive power as well. Only cost me $20,000 and an almost-breakdown to learn that lesson!
