Two more observations: 1. The REAL AIG scandal is the $93 billion they gave to Goldman Sachs and an unspecified number of European banks. That doesn't seem to begin to get anybody's panties in wad, yet the sum of money there makes the bonuses look like chump change.
2. This is similar to the manufactured outrage over Blagojevich's pay-to-play scheme. An analysis of how Obama got his campaign war chest, or why he can in the same speech praise AIG's president (an Obama supporter) and simultaneously paint the company as evil and greedy, would plainly reveal that Blagojevich's sin wasn't pay-to-play, is was gross sloppiness---the same sin they're trying to hoist on Geithner, now that Wunderbrain has proven he really can't single-handedly handle the banking system any better than he can handle TurboTax. - Bob > > http://tinyurl.com/cqh99h > > - - - > If not distancing itself from Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, the > White > House is placing firmly on his shoulders responsibility for how the > government handled the $165 million in bonuses paid to about 400 > executives > and traders at American International Group Inc. > > "Secretary Geithner last week engaged with the CEO of AIG to > communicate > what we thought were outrageous and unacceptable bonuses," White House > spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday. > > Then he volunteered the answer to a question being asked all over > Washington: Did Geithner still enjoy President Barack Obama's > confidence, > given the whopping bonuses the failed insurance giant paid Friday after > receiving taxpayer bailout money? > > "The president has complete confidence" in Geithner, Gibbs said. > - - - > > Trying to understand what all the manufactured hubbub was over the AIG > bonuses was REALLY about, I could make no sense of it until I read this > article. > > Plainly, it's time to throw tax cheat Geithner under the bus, thereby > erasing one of Obama's more embarrassing mistakes, and this is their > (pathetic) excuse to do it.
