Ah, so there is no such thing as a professional programmer?
I've spent the better part of my career cleaning up poorly-written
software by all sorts of programmers, not just the corporate drones you
mention. Some were high-priced consultants; some were independent developers;
and still others were start-up teams. None of them could blame their crap on
"incompetent managers" - they didn't have managers. They were supposed to be
professionals, but they were not.
