Paint Shop Pro from Jasc also has a good screen/window/object capture. Typically, I would run my desktop at 2048x1536, then grab what I want. I've found that saving the grabbed screen in '.png' (Portable Network Graphics) offers the best compression without any detail loss whatsoever.
