Mira, I changed the default wire color so there is a good contrast between the wire and the net labels. The underscore no longer disappears into the wire!
For negation though, I use a trailing tilde. It's not very visible, so perhaps I'll try the # sign. The * gave some problems since it's the standard wild card symbol.
